Smartify & StoryFutures speaking at Connecting Culture

Join us at this free virtual conference to discuss the future of museum e-commerce

We are excited to announce that Anna Lowe, Smartify Director of Partnerships, will be joining StoryFutures Director James Bennett and academics Dr Philip Wu and Dr Niki Panteli at the Connecting Culture virtual conference, September 9th - 10th. The team will discuss their recent research into mobile e-commerce for museum shops.

Connecting Culture is a two-day virtual conference organised by the UK Department of International Trade, Museum Insider and Museums + Heritage. The event will bring together industry leaders from the UK museum and heritage sector to cover topics including technological developments and the future operating procedures in a world post-COVID-19.

Why attend the session?

The museum sector has been slow to embrace e-commerce with a sector average of only 7% of total sales occurring online. Reasons for this low uptake include poor e-commerce technology; low public awareness; and the fact that many museum purchases are driven by passion in the moment rather than search (e.g. a visitor has an inspiring experience and wants to take home something to remember). In the context of museum remobilisation with reduced visitor numbers, we will discuss how museum shops can embrace e-commerce. Questions the session will answer include:
