Free or low-cost content creation tools for museums and galleries
In January Smartify launched a new monthly technology, design and museums newsletter called Museum Reset - read the first issue. We've been thinking about online learning and new formats (and business models!) for content creation. No one knows yet where audience expectations will settle with regard to virtual exhibitions and classes, but if this time has taught us anything it is the continued importance of digital content. Here's a round up of some of the content creation tools you'll find in the newsletter plus a few extra to play with ...
remove.bg - This little tool turns any image into a png with a transparent background. I use it almost every time I’m making a presentation.
letsenhance.io - This online AI turns low quality images into high res. Useful for improving collection images or if an illustration for your talk or website needs a boost.
Miro - An online whiteboard. By this point I think everyone is using Miro, but just in case you’re not - it really is the next best thing to real post-it notes and felt-tip pens. Use for any collaborative work, storyboarding etc.
Kapwing.com - A content creation tool for easy photo, video, meme and gif creation.
Unfold - If you're looking to create pre-planned Instagram stories you can't go wrong with the app Unfold. Use free templates and fonts to create an engaging, ahem unfolding, story experience.
Infogram - Looking to add interactive infographics to a presentation, application or webpage? Infogram has 37 free infographics to play with.
